These paintings recover the garden’s vegetable order that follow a carefully designed architecture, in close connection to the built spaces which are a frequent theme in the artist's painting. In the garden he chose to represent, the artist found affinities with that of his childhood home, the place of a dreamlike experience where, he wrote, "neither time nor outer space existed”. It was this suspension of time and space that caused enchantment and he recovers that memory in the painting of the Jardim Botânico da Ajuda.
The canvases in this series are from 1999, and they depict the Botanic Garden in Ajuda (Lisbon).
