The Great Flood

The Big Flood is a series of 13 paintings painted in 1996, which were shown for the first time at the Centre Culturel Calouste Gulbenkian in Paris, in 2001.
In that same year, the poet Nuno Júdice wrote a book of poems in dialogue with this series, with the title Jogo de Reflexos, published in a bilingual edition by Éditions Chadeigne, Paris, 2001. In these paintings, the spaces and corners common in Manuel Amado's paintings are flooded, and they appear in duplicate in the liquid mirror represented, and for this reason, calm and emptiness are more assumedly associated with abandonment and catastrophe, accentuated by the dimness of its reflection in the water.
